The positions will be filled for an initial period of 3 years with possibilities for prolongations. Applicants with publications in international peer-reviewed journals and good interpersonal as well as communication skills are expected.

Position 1.
The successful applicant will be working on a vaccine-vector relevant, comparative study of functional genomics of naturally occurring and genetically modified orthopoxviruses during infection of human and mammalian cells. The aim is to identify host and viral factors that modulates the molecular life cycle of naturally occurring and transgenic orthopoxviruses. Candidates should have a recent Ph.D in virology, molecular biology, cell biology or related fields, with strong background in proteomics and transcriptomics
Position 2.
The successful applicant will be working on a study of the processes leading to, and the pathophysiological consequences of, endogenous retrovirus (ERV) activation in human and animal organisms. Candidates should have a recent Ph.D in general and molecular immunology. The experimental models employed will require experience with mammalian cell cultures and the use of liposomal delivery systems for intracellular transport of biologically active substances. Candidates having documented practical experience within electron and light microscopy, immunohistochemistry, biochemical separation methods and nucleic acid/protein blotting techniques will be given preference.
Position 3.
The successful applicant will be working on research projects related to the implications of “new” biotechnologies (transgenesis, nanobiotechnology, synthetic biology and converging technologies) and alternative options for transparent and sustainable governance and development of these technologies. Candidates should have a recent PhD in biotechnology, preferably with an interdisciplinary profile that combines genomics/molecular biology/transgenesis experience with social science research, policy, natural resource management and the institutional and regulatory implications of biotechnologies, nationally and internationally.
Position 4.
The successful applicant will be working on projects related to the transcriptomes of cells and organisms created by transgenesis and synthetic biology. He/she will contribute to further development of research projects within high-throughput transcriptomics, regulatory RNA, and associated bioinformatics. Thus, practical and theoretical experiences are highly welcome within molecular biology in general, and more specifically in RNomics/ microRNA, transcriptomics and cDNA libraries, bioinformatics, and eukaryotic research systems. GenØk’s cooperating research groups have established several research projects based on ‘next-generation’ sequencing of animal transcriptomes, - from the less complex cnidarians (sea anemones) and planktonic crustaceans (Daphnia) to fishes (cod) and mammals (mice). Here, transcriptomes and microRNAs are subjected to 454-pyrosequencing and associated 454-bioinformatics for sequence mining, transcriptional profiling, and further functional analyses.
