Marek works on the project Effects of recomb substances in foodweb systems together with Thomas Bøhn.

Marek is a marine biologist specialized in coral reef ecology and
invertebrate community structure and has worked with zoology, teaching, diving, consulting, environmental impact assessment and management of waste. With his supervisor Thomas Bøhn, Marek works in the ecosystem & ecology team at GenØk.

The main objective of the current work is to investigate "effects of recombined substances in food web systems". One major question is, whether there are substantial synergistic effects from combinations of biotechnology, modern agricultural practice and other anthropogenic environmental factors, - and whether these could have negative implications on the quality of certain types of food for human consumption as well as certain types of feed for farm animals.

Marek was born in Prague in central Europe, approximately 235 metres above sea level, but has lived most of his life close to the sea and would not consider living anywhere else. An enthusiastic diver, sailor and fisherman, he has crossed the Atlantic with a compass and sextant as the main navigational tools, worked as a water-skiing instructor and met some large animals face to face in the depths of the oceans.
